Total Google ad revenue increased to $50.44 billion, up 69% from the year-ago quarter

I have no words...

I knew it would increase...but 69%

I was expecting like 20%-30%. But NEARLY 70%?

Meanwhile everyone else's organic traffic is either stagnating or falling. Also those who won during core updates report now significantly lower conversions.

All the high-value traffic is going to adwords and youtube now guys. I am telling you. All these PAA etc. are now strategically applied and inserted to divert high-value traffic over to ads and youtube.

It's extremely obvious now. I mean, come on.

My personal semrush score is 9.3 today. I am assuming this is the links spam update. Cant tell where this is going yet...

@mzb44 so that's where all that free furlough money went, to Google ads and new houses hence the housing boom!

It wasn't quite a 69% Y-o-Y increase: [webmasterworld.com...]
62% was a notable increase though.

I think the 62% was the overall revenue increase while the 69% refers to revenue from ads.

Absolutely insane either way.

Our conversions keep dropping like rocks on a free fall because search engines keep gobbling up all the converting queries to keep increasing their profits:

Its like they are sucking out all growth and vitality from the Internet.

Revenue growth 65% YoY while number of active websites (real not auto generated spam) across the free Internet probably is DOWN.

We have to remember that a year ago we were in the middle of the COVID downturn. By way of example, my revenue is up 190% from the year ago quarter. Last year was horrendous.

This is absolutely true, but nevertheless, the overall chart looks something like this: [ibb.co...]

If you compare it with Q2 2019 instead of 2020 then it's something like 65% rather than 69%. :)

Hello,

Are there any further Google ranking changes? On 26th July, traffic to my site has suddenly fallen by 80%

More yo-yoing PVs ... After 11 hours of my Googleday I was at 100% of average traffic, two hours later and I'm at 150% ... Not bots, all good stuff, must see if something's suddenly been "promoted" somewhere.

I just wonder if anyone still needs convincing that G stopped being a SE a long time ago?

Paying for a service which has obvious and sustainable value and delivers ROI is fine by me.
However this has now become plain robbery under the disguise of a registered legal company.
G has their fingers literally in the wallets of webmasters and companies around the world who depend on their online presence for their business. And now they demand a hefty percentage of your earnings or they will kill your online business.

Their "grease the wheels" budget must be huge also.

Another hour or so and I'm now at 200% with more than 9 hours to go of my Googleday.

I've checked where people have come from and their landing pages, all completely pre-Spring update volume, no specific widget(s), no excessive downloads, many different countries, most visits are multiple pages and not a single page.

All other sites at the moment are actually down with traffic.

Anyone else seeing a single site spike of genuine traffic?

Dont know about a spike, I am still recovering at a snail pace. I wish the recovery would have been as fast the drops.

This is not directed at yourself Dooku.

companies around the world who depend on their online presence for their business.

That's an interesting comment.

I'm just starting my 54th year in business, my 28th year with being involved with the www however our business focus has realistically not changed. Sure the web has made some things a darned sight easier, faster and cheaper but our customer service and product quality plus reliability has never been compromised.

Do we have an entrire full generation of business people who only believe in low prices and appalling customer service and back-up only resolvable with online FAQs?

Buying competitively is one thing, buying cheap purely for the sake of it is a common business mistake, if that is all your potential customers are interested in then it's time to re-consider.

Huge drop today...USA traffic down 58% at noon, Australia down 43%, total traffic down 30%. I'm seeing drops of 25-30 places for some terms, but I don't work about that much as it always seems to snap back the next day. These updates are coming more and more often and seem to last around 12-24 hours...you can forget getting good traffic on that day.

@RedBar

I am so glad that I don't sell anything other than "community." Also, almost my entire income some from advertising revenue. A much lesser percentage comes for additional website features that I sell by way of Premium Memberships. However, when one's entire source of income is dependent on Google, that can be a little nerve-wracking.

When I enter a search term that my website is specifically built to answer and is the most relevant resource since 2007, I get a top ad (never seen before on a non-commercial query like this), two corporate media sites with outdated articles written by their SEO person specifically for this query (with 2021 in title), huge "People also ask" and under that, outside the screen, is the actual result that people need (my site).

@gatormark

Agreed, realistically this dependency on The Net and especially so Google, started in the early noughties, many companies and universities extracted their brains and threw everything into outsourcing and lowest-cost production centres.

I'm not saying we have not outsourced, indeed we started that in the 50s and by the 70s it was standard practice in the UK but surprisingly it took the USA well into the 90s to do it ... in my industry.

Many of the sites out there are simply box movers with low margins, the art in successful sales is selling a better product at a higher price and I'll point out the perfect example of this, Apple Inc. It matters not whether one uses their products, they eventually nailed everything right.

Does Apple succeed or fail because of Google's shenanigans, no, it's created a far more secure business. Not all of us can be Apple however when people keep complaining about price slashing and unfair competition then it is time to look at one's business model.

And there we go, shortly after 15.00 my time this afternoon today's surge in traffic was switched off plus I've gone back to 90% single page views.

Nope, there's absolutely no manipulation of traffic whatsoever by The Gorg, this is completely and utterly normal search behaviour during regular business hours.

We're in the travel niche, so we've had a big increase in traffic and ad revenues in recent months. This has mostly been due to changes in the marketplace--e.g., reopening of national borders and improved international airlift capacity--but we've also had a decent improvement in average Google rankings and in Google traffic since the July core update, especially for our most popular evergreen pages and topics. (New pages, in contrast, can take quite a while to earn decent rankings.)

google keeps sending me email with 120 EUR coupons if i spend another 120 EUR. That emails came direct after the first juli update and they keep coming.
Yes i will spend 120 EUR but not on google if will spend them on amazon. You have to go where the customers are and that is not google anymore.

Yesterday's "update" seems to have concluded. My traffic remained very low all day until 5pm, and then it skyrocketed making up much of the loss. Today seems normal, and my ranking has returned...improved in some cases but dropped off in others. I am seeing two things in GSC. Suddenly most of my pages are red for desktop under CWV, and also my backlink count is much lower for some sites. Google has reduced my backlink count from valid, high-quality non spammy sites by as much as 1/3...other sites not at all. Is anyone else seeing this?

Awesome G, today at the same time I have 20% of yesterday's PVs and after 15 hours 39% of my average PVs ... Yeah, shut me down nicely after getting me excited ... Hey G, I do not care, manipulate all you like, you're creating you're very own investigation.

@RedBar....when you start talking to G via forum posts it's a sure sign that a crackup is coming! ;-) ...I wouldn't sweat it, my traffic dropped through the floor yesterday and then popped right back into place today so it's short lived. Overall traffic and conversions have been much better in July than in June so I hope it doesn't revert back to the previous nightmare. One day daylong drops seem to the new normal with G.
