Here we go. Good luck (which clearly is now a core update ranking factor) to everyone.

It's make or break time for many of us here.

Many of us here who if remain stuck or hit even harder after this will need to seriously consider the option of abandoning our sites and either create new ones or just quit completely.

Edit: I also think this is going to be the last core update of 2021. So if hit again, will definitely not brother maintaining my older sites.

Good Luck and fingers crossed for all of you. I Hope we are not moaning tomorrow and still have a business.

On a side note. I never knew Google to carry out two core updates so close together. Maybe they wanted to see what the June one looked like before making sure it was ok to proceed? Let's hope there is significant changes in spam and older websites getting credit where credit is due.

June core update
CWV update
Spam update Episode 1
Spam update Episode 2
July core update

The first 4 were net-negative for the Web so this one should also make things worse, purely based on probabilities.

Anyway, we need a new thread...

I also think this is going to be the last core update of 2021

What, no Sept / Oct manipulative Xmas shake about to drive-up G's ad revenies?

It does NEED it you know :-)

These kinda aren't really two standalone unique core updates.

They said in June when they launched the previous update that in July there will be another one. They announced the current core update a month ago. We knew in advance it will happen in July.

They said that certain parts of the core update were not yet completed in June, so they released an incomplete core update and then do another one in July with the new features.

So, technically this is part 2 of the June core update. Normally this would have been one single core update. I would not expect subsequent core updates to be this frequent.

There probably won't be another core update until December. But, if they are unhappy with the results they will release 'tweaks' shortly after. It will take a few good hours to hit, I am doing final tweaks on my website.

Yes, agreed. December definitely makes sense to steal some more high-value Christmas traffic as well as to push (force) businesses with full Christmas inventories to use adwords.

I'm not looking forward to this update, it has dropped my rankings daily decline and its just not stopping. Anyone else see this?

I am seeing more search results with 1st or 2nd place for image carrossel and 4th or 5th place for "people also search for".

Third position means bellow the fold now.

First page with 9 external links instead of 10. Most of the page is google internal links.

I was hit during June core update with -20%. At 11:00 AM PST today my traffic is back to pre-june level. I hope whatever it is, my recovery sticks.

I started working for a company as in house SEO. The June update would have given me panic else. It's good to distance myself from the Google Dance.

I do see a tons of #*$! redirects on some niches that I follow. Onlyfan and something else. Results past top 5 are pretty much 50% all spam redirects. Google's new AI and MUM must love MILF's. I am afraid to check these spams links out at work.

Ive never seen the results in such a mess. I searched to see if I can get an ofset mortgage today with my lender and the 2nd result is a cloaked result. What the hell is going on. I have never seen this in all my 24 years of doing SEO. It is broken, they need to roll back post December 2020 - the spam is like I have never seen before, and legit sites like mine is being replaced with spun content (linking to my youtube videos on their site with my face!) and being pushed out of the internet. Ive lost about 50% of my top 1-3 terms to third-world poorly written content or news sites. I've noticed people are putting in my brand name now to get to my pages. Another 15 comments yesterday on youtube and saying how much people love my site, pitty Google does not feel the same!

Why does Google keep patching up a broken core update? It's not worked, end of.

It's a terrible mess and user experience. Roll back until you can execute an update that works for the user.

The general everyday user will start to wonder why they are getting poor results and taken to spam sites.

@frankleeceo

I am also seeing reversion of the June update insanity for the past ~10 hours, although it is too early to tell if this is a trend or just a blip before things get even worse.

Interesting... semrush daily SERP report just processed and my site is up on 100 search terms, down on 30 over last 24 hours (of 200 search terms). First time I've had a clear net-gain like that in years (I got slaughtered last May).

Broad based; feels like at least part of the massive invisible algorithmic penalty applied domain-wide to our site has been reduced. Total guess based on nothing but a gut feel, but if this holds up, I wonder aloud if they are acknowledging the spam issues and have reduced the penalties related to spammy backlink profiles for which site operators have no control over.

Haven't noticed a big change in traffic yet, although these SERP moves are only hours old so far. Fingers crossed this holds up and strengthens.

My personal semrush score is less than 3.0, no impact yet. I do see big volatility per country but my website has not been affected as of yet. Regarding the spam update, I did receive a minor boost but this is so small it can be erased. Good luck for everyone, it's been a wild year.

My 1st June results not yet in. Not looking forward to my SEMrush score. PV were 5% down yesterday alone.

These two core updates have made me very confused. In my niche, everybody is losing keywords like crazy, everybody, I can't find a winner. I know that there are people with far better insight into SEO than me here, so what the h*ll is going on here?
EDIT: Never mind, it's just a couple of mega domains that took all keywords away. I was on a holiday and forgot to switch on my VPN and got weird local results..

Umm, was this update about adding another Google widget? Instead of the "people also asked" widget we all love so much at the top we know have a new one "people also searched for" above all organics, 2 organics then "people also asked" then organics (this is ignoring the youtube video spam, image carousels and ads) on all my mobile searches this morning...

I saw a recovery from a previous core update in June's update. And I'm seeing another boost in rankings now with July core update. :)

Good luck all!

Good luck. I am seeing nothing yet because it hasn't reached my site yet. The recovery I am seeing, which is minor is from the spam update at the moment.

past two days were not bad for me, today it seems like #*$! hit the fan again and most of my traffic is again coming from Africa and India, the google saga of ridiculousness continues

These "features" are now reaching revels of ridiculousness never before imagined.

They aren't even trying now to at least pretend it's completely new features meant to help the searcher.

I would not be surprised if soon there will be a third one like this called "People also inquired about".

Also, I got this from a Brian Dean research - "On average, only 3% of searchers interact with a “People Also Ask” box" - so, by any standard PAA is completely useless from a user experience standpoint. It would have been rolled back ages ago if it weren't for the fact user experience has nothing to do with them and they only exists to suppress and push down organic results.

@Redbar, "On average, only 3% of searchers interact with a “People Also Ask” box"

the 3% you mention are probably 99% SEO's and site owners working out ways to get listed in these blocks ;)

@ichthyous regarding you 301 redirect comment that pulls old sites down. My site from 2003 is slowly getting less and less traffic for the last number of years) but has maybe 3 x 301 redirects for individual page. I also have a redirect for http to https for all pages. So at least for me 301 redirects are not the cause. IMO it is the huge number of backlinks we now have that are spam.

I don't think it is backlink spam that is the cause of older sites getting destroyed. If it were people submitting disavow files would garner some results. I've heard of no one improving from submitting a disavow file.

I think there is a bug with the algorithm that can not handle so much historic data when there is an update, and thus fails to index the site properly.

Based on semrush, my visibility increased by +0.20 today. What a joke. I am not even sure its related to the core update.

Today is starting with higher traffic from UK, AU, Eu and pretty much every place outside of the USA, which is starting the day here -68%. Yesterday was awful...USA down 28%. I have climbed in position for a lot of terms, but many have dropped so far since March that they will need many days of consistent increases for it to really help me much
