Google Confirms New Penguin Algo Will Not Update Until 2016

We were all expecting a Google Penguin to come along with and update, right! Well, according to reports on Search engine land, Google will not be updating the new Google Penguin Algorithm until 2016.

I guess we'll all have to continue waiting while Google gets the update working properly.

Sounds like more tweaking... or more data gathering before a tweak. I doubt the general character of Penguin will change, but fine tuning that might let some marginal sites off the hook would be welcome.

My sites are ranking well so I kinda don't want an update because there are always some dances. However, I do feel bad for those guys that got hit with a penalty.

For better or worse, I would rather see whatever the advancements are.

I find it sad that people actually await these updates, letting one company have such a control on their life/businesses! Been making websites for years, never was interested and never have been affected by any Google changes (only for the better). I believe that the next Penguin algo push will be like the current Panda. It will roll out for months, first gathering data and matching it to the filter/penalization rules, then once it has enough data, it will start penalizing not the user websites (or not as much) rather ban websites, used for link building, like the PBNs and such. If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Why ban a website when you can ban the network/method/etc. boosting that website in the SERPS. Using the second approach, Google will hit two rabbits with one stone. Just like they are doing it it now with the Panda+Phantom updates aimed at the content quality side of things.

Kopparberg, there were definitely 'false positives' - sites penalised unfairly - with both panda and penguin updates, as well as many sites that were penalised because they had followed common practice 5-10 years ago eg link exchanges, directory and article submissions or splitting longer articles into smaller articles that targetted specific keywords etc.

It is reasonable for owners of these sites, who might have spent months or years removing this history, to be interested in when penguin or panda will re-run to see if their sites will recover.

And those who are aware that false positives will always exist will also be right to be concerned about any forthcoming update, especially a penguin update that might well penalise sites because of the impact of inbound links that the site owner knows nothing about and had no part in creating.

It is not productive to continue analyzing the minutia of google serp updates. You guys are all torturing yourselves. Please for your own good forget about your own sites for a minute and search for something huge, search for a household name like a music album or a video game title...

Just look at the ludicrous elevation of piracy, nonsense and page filler & the omission & demotion of original sources, creators, owners & other legitimate sources. Compare Google results to any other search engine to see just how ridiculous they are.

It is entirely intentional, completely systematic, utterly immoral, bad for humanity, bad for the pursuit of prosperity, knowledge and access. Its literally evil & there is no way around the fact that it's being done at everyones expense out of pure greed on Google's part.

I'm sure many of you have noticed that if you take some action to promote or improve your site & traffic increases that your efforts are soon rewarded with additional constrictions from Google. I'm sure all of you have been lead to believe that it is your fault, that you have broken a rule, designed something poorly, that you're not good at your job.... I ask you to remember that a real search engine is made to index, search and rank the content of the web as it is & to provide the greatest possible access to the best possible content. I ask you to remember how well you were doing before, how your viewers and customers were happy, how you never got a complaint. A real search engine would not try to force the vastness of the web into compliance with it's so-called guidelines.

Google is not a search engine. Google does not care about quality. Google does not have anyones best interest at heart other than their own. Google does not own the web and they should not be allowed to ruin your lives. They can do whatever they want with their ridiculous search pages. The only answer is getting people to stop using them.

A good webmaster never gave Google a second thought.

If the answer for everything is on amazon.com or wikipedia then what do we need Google for at all? If Google will promote & sponsor the theft of our material on youtube & on its search pages above the original & legitimate sources is Google not then responsible for the theft?

It is not Google that needs safe harbor. Its us. We don't need help or mercy from Google. We need protection from Google.

It's not exactly scrapers though there is some of that too. It's just plain-old piracy. I've never had a manual penalty.

Not to reduce it all to a philosophical issue but I am not a criminal & the very idea that my ability to earn a living could be effected by some sort of "penalty" imposed on me by some third party whom I never invited into the situation makes me very upset.

There are actual laws for which there are actual "penalties" but apparently Google is not subject to those laws or the associated penalties.

I will not spend another second trying to figure out why Google wants to ruin my life. The damage is done. 20 years of material is permanently devalued & new material gets no traction until someone pirates it. I spent 2 years trying everything under the sun across a multitude of effected sites and none of the #*$! that Google swore was responsible for the problem made any difference.

Years ago a buddy of mine tried to upload a music video that he made which happened to have an uncleared sample in the intro.... Youtube automatically rejected & disallowed the video due to the sample... Google however continues to claim that policing their serps for blatant piracy is impossible.

Google sells my registered trademarks as adsense keywords. That is illegal. When challenged on that they claimed that my registered trademark was not valid & threatened to have my lawyer disbarred.

Google elevated a particular instance of piracy of my material to a #1 result & held it there for years despite multiple DMCA and trademarks complaints, this resulted in over 60,000 downloads with a retail value over $9m.

I purchased a competitor site & 301 redirected every page over to the corresponding page on the new site. NONE of the traffic or search goodness transferred over, traffic on the newly merged site actually fell.

Thwarted at every turn, counteracted with every advance... I'm just not stupid enough to continue playing this game.

I am of the opinion that Google is so harmful that there needs to be an organized effort to dislodge them from our ability to reach the public.

There is a certain repetitiveness to these threads about pending algo updates... an underlying air of wishful thinking that somehow Google got it wrong and the update is going to redress the collateral damage that has wiped out my/your/his/her/their websites and sanity will return to the world.

Events like Panda and Penguin (especially Penguin) were really just blunt instruments (IMO) that created a playing field where Google's own products and a small clique of "authority" sites became the only serious players allowed into the game. The era of pay to play had arrived and the independents relying on free traffic was over, no matter how good their site may have been. Travel is the obvious area to see this.

Sorry to be the wet blanket but has anyone stopped to consider that upgrades might happen when Google feels that the first iteration has left a bit of cream on the table and the second and subsequent iterations are really about siphoning off the bit that was missed?

I truly hope that a new Penguin will bring about relief for all those effected sites.... but IMO it will be about the money, it's always about the money.

Do you think I would challenge Google without also challenging the pirates directly? When you make something that is digital & people want it, it will be pirated. There is no way around that. I have dealt with that since the 90's. Before Google went nuts the piracy was generally ranked much lower than any legitimate sources.

My trouble will Google is not limited to the greatly diminished traffic to my own sites or legitimate distributors. The problem is magnified exponentially by the elevation, promotion & funding of obvious pirates who have been reported to Google over & over & over. This piracy does not simply deprive me of sales or of the opportunity to be the one who gives away my own work. It forever devalues those works in a manner that is unrecoverable... AND GOOGLE PROFITS FROM IT DIRECTLY.

No doubt there are some winners in the situation other than Google but IMO those winners are coincidences & accidents... and pirates. The VAST MAJORITY of sites have suffered and many lives have been crushed. I completely agree with austtr that each subsequent update just makes things worse.

I will never understand why this does not get any press or attention or why there is not a class-action law suit. My business has been able to survive (Barely) but at great cost. Many others are not so lucky. The course of my life & my work is forever diminished & I'm pissed. I'm sad to still see so many of you in here thinking that recovery is just around the corner. I don't know about that. In the interest of protecting my investment, I spend a little bit of time every week doing my due diligence by looking for anyone stealing our IP.
Just yesterday I caught a scraper and a trademark infringement was filed and the site was gone within three hours.
We don't come out on top with every algorithm update but the general trend is very positive.
I guess I'm just sayin' that if we're arguing with anecdotal evidence, from where I'm standing it look as if things just keep getting better and better.

Also fathom it is virtually impossible to sue someone who lives in a different country or who is impossible to identify through their sites.... Also each individual pirate may not be worth suing.... Bla bla bla. Some will understand, some just wont. Argue if you like but you'll only achieve various levels of wrongness. There is no right in this, were all getting screwed as is everyone using Google search & there is really no excuse.

How many millions of us have tried how many billions of solutions & fixes all while being dragged along & lead on by Google & their #*$!-head minions in the Google forum insisting its all because of some implementation on our sites. So many of us have been duped into spending our precious lives & money chasing a ghost while Google has known damn-well the whole time that there is no hope. It's just mean & I'm actually shocked to see this conversation still going on.

I've built new sites for clients that seemed to do fine... but then who knows how they would have done had Google not gone crazy. If all old sites are penalized an all new sites are not then whats the point of that? What sense does that make? This is all distraction & deflection & obfuscation. This is the corporatizing & homogenizing of the internet into something that resembles the old media.

@Atomic - Yes. I too used to spend an appropriate amount of time policing my IP. When Google turned this situation became insurmountable. Most pages that are delisted or taken down just pop right back up. Many are never taken down, delisted or penalized by Google in any way. It's pointless. You can't put that type of genie back into that type of bottle & it is not the goal of anyone to spend all day obsessing over their old creations. We want to have a little time left over to make new stuff.

If this implies Adsense is being used on the alleged website there is a process to notify Google and acquire the revenue from the Adsense Account. Course you have to prove you are the Legitimate Publisher.

@fathom - I genuinely appreciate the link to Adsense complaints & I may be able to learn something new there however I have submitted many, many of these complaints before & I am very reluctant to waste any more of my time on something that has done very little good in the past.

In addition I would like to point out the the fractions of a penny earned by adsense ads are cold comfort for sales of items that are $10 -$500 or jobs that could be worth 5 figures. Even If I were able to invest the time to try and seize the revenue from future adsense earnings on some of these pages its already been years. Like I said, its a bit hard to sell an item after millions of copies have been spread around for free. This idea of proving authorship or ownership of something then being entitled to it's earnings from youtube or adsense is a huge cop-out & half-measure on Google's part and would in most cases be too little too late since most attention comes to such things when they are new. Once a publisher proves his ownership the gold-rush on a particular piece of content will likely be over.

Piracy is viral. Getting $5 from adsense is not compensation for a few thousand $50 items being passed out for free. Those few thousand will sprout an unknown number of new instances.

Rarity is sometimes a feature. Choosing to whom I license something is a right protected by law. My reputation is at stake as much as my revenue. My products are not entertainment items. they are items that a company or individual can use to earn money and/or represent themselves. They are unique & their use in certain commercial or exploitive capacities is prohibited. When these items are pirated I loose that influence/control. When the piracy is elevated above the legitimate sources this feature is destroyed.

Cold comfort may be better than none... Its been a while so I'll give it another look
