netmeg -- we don't know for sure how big of a role user metrics plays in Google's algorithm.

No, we don't, but I do know my own experiences and so far in my experience, sites that are really really loved by users who come back to them over and over again tend to rank pretty well and stay ranked. Pinterest is one of those sites.

Martinibuster has made some useful observations on machine learning and user metrics. Scroll down until you find them in this thread:

UK - I have definitely seen a change in my widget SERPs with many pages improving from already good positions.

Anyone else?

I haven't seen much change in the serps except for one group of sites (30+ domains) owned by one person get almost completely removed from Google. After 2 plus years I am glad to see them go. They had created a formula for the niche and replicated it using keyword rich domain names and similar articles rewritten for each site. They also had a private blog network which gave them the backlinks needed to stay on the first page of the serps. For some result pages they had 7 of the top spots.

I didn't think Google would ever give them the boot.

It's the 8th June and 5 posts?

Are you all that happy or given up in despair?

Things have been pretty stable over the last few days. Don't worry though... its only the quiet before the storm.

In germany we had a long weekend from thursday to sunday.

Meanwhile the serps from google got so rediculous that even talking about it seems wasted time. I am looking forward to see poeple realize that ixquick, bing, metagear and all the other SEs are giving a way better potpurri of choices while users searching with google are trapped by googles filter bubble.

I'm good. Two of my B2B client ecommerce sites got a spike last week big enough to trigger a Google Analytics Intelligence Alert, in both cases after fairly slow May numbers. It's great, but I can't put my finger on why. The keywords and rankings (to the extent I can tell) seem to be mostly all the same, but the traffic really spiked. Hope it lasts.

I have a good influx of traffic on the main website I monitor, due to few seasonal events closing in. A bit higher traffic than what I'd hope for (which is good) but what I am really interested in is how Panda is going to affect the SERPs. Also the big SERP mess in Google.de is continueing to eat away traffic from there...

After 15 years of this, what's really left to say? You could cut'n paste posts from years ago and they'd fit right in.

Wow, i never thought i could be, but after this quality update this germany serps get so bad it looks like google tries to find all crap pages the can find and put them in front only to make poeple click on their ads. Apropos ads, since this quality update the CPC went up significant. MIssion accomplished!

Something very big must go through google.de. I see drops about 20%-60% for different sites that had been healthy till today.

Ah, sorry; it is an quality update!

so maybe when they talk about the increase in search volume there really is only an increase in the number of times someone has to search to find what they are looking for and not an increase in the number of new searches. From a business perspective, this is a brilliant move, thay make more money on the front end and the news churnilsts create very positive pr to encourage investors.

google stated in a germany journal that 85% yes 86% of all daily queries are the same and only 15% are new queries.
I guess that the 85% are coming from search bubble e.g. google suggestions in the search box. So it is very easy for google to manipulate poeple in an order that they donīt recognize that they have been manipulated.

I agree, google.de is still broken. I'm currently using google.at for the most of my searches. google.de contains too much foreign sites.

Biggest drop today for several sites since 3 years now. We see a 25% drop in traffic. Conversions Zero.
It seems that there are two datacenters that google is displaying now. One is very worse with lots of foreign sites and realy rubbish ( maybe quality sites) sites that only put manufacuter information on the site, no desgin, very little html almost no navigation but lots of repeating keywords. Amazon rules for every single query, it makes no difference if the amazon page matches the query or not.

I just had a quick search on google.de in German for one of my products, there were nine results.

The first three were Ebay - one with auction over
Then two Amazon - the first one product unavailable
Alibaba
German trade widget directory site - totally incorrect page, nothing to do with the query
Genuine Austrian supplier
YouTube - utterly pointless and non-relevant video

Awesome stuff!

Guys, something interesting jumped in today.

I was starting to check the cache of some landing pages. Then BUM: cache dates start to change with every refresh for the same page. Ever met this before?

Nothing new here. So far, today's hourly traffic graph looks an exact copy from the same day last week. (English-language dot com information site, international audience.)

Just to add that the .ca results are a mess up here as well if you are trying to buy something local. I tried to search for a hat as it it getting so damn hot up here, around 37c so I needed one of those soaker golf hats.

Searched for "brand name hat for sale my city"

I got top 3 USA amazon selling hats, not the brand
find a local job classifieds site
Trip advisor restaurant review for city 400 miles away
An Australian blind shop
House for sale site (local)
random bog with city mention
the last 2 at 9 &10 were out of province real estate sites

Page 2 gets worse, nothing even close to local or hats for sale, like disability sites, hot tubs for sale wrong province... that sort of thing... but the paid ads stay spot on 100% about the hat I wanted to buy, but none local.

I think there still collecting information, the full algo not rolling yet. This one (Panda) is key for me I am shutting down a site if I don't see any recovery.

I noticed some smaller shifts in rankings for the last couple of days, but no major changes that would indicate Panda was rolling out. (Germany)
