So let's suppose I am selling new Platinum Widget Software Subscriptions (PWSS), and there are only 3-4 other competitors, but competition for customers is fierce, and customers link to my site when they use my PWSS.
And let's suppose my competitors are constantly watching me and trying to get some of my market share by going after my existing customers. They do this by searching Google and other tools for incidences of links pointing to my site.
To make it much more difficult for competitors to research my link profile, I acquire thousands or millions of links. Maybe I don't even care about Google. I just don't want all my hard work getting new customers (outside of Google) to be used by my competitors.
I'm actually dealing with this exact scenario. I have no problem getting customers outside of Google, but Google is a tool that people in our industry use to get a prospect list going.
Any comments?
