Hi,

Some time back we created tutorials on a test tool Quality Center ([snipped link]) which now needs upgrading.

Currently the tool has been renamed to HP ALM.
Our dilemma is whether we should create new pages for the new tutorials or update the existing tutorials itself ? To add to our pain, most of the end users still refer the new ALM with its old name Quality Center. Also we here hit by penguin 2.1 and since then have been very precautions from SEO standpoint.

Please help
Regards
Krishna Rungta

Welcome to the forums Krishna8520,

In order to understand the situation best as possible, members here need as full a description as possible of the problem you're facing.

We tend to avoid personal links on these forums as the more general approach can help everyone understand how to rank better.

>new/old

Is your seemingly Penguine penalised rankings/URLs on the same domain, for instance?

Can you go into more detail about the Penguin penalty? Was it an algorithmic hit or did you get a manual action notice? If the later, has it been resolved?

Really Penguin issues shouldn't come into play here since you aren't dealing with spammy links. If anything, you are dealing with onsite quality issues which are more Panda's domain.

Per your question about new vs existing, are people still using the old tool and will it be relevant after the new one is published? If not, I'd see if you have external links going to that resource. If they are good links (and not the cause of your penguin penalty), I'd say build it on the existing footprint to take advantage of that (also assuming the tool is similar in nature to the previous one). If not or its loaded with bad links, start it as a new area on the site. 404 the other one out to strand these bad links. Of course that may not be possible, if people are still accessing it.

Anyway, a lot of this is conjecture on my part since we are missing a lot of detail on the situation. Help clarify things, and we'll see where we are at.
