Hi,

here is the situation...

the website is based in one country and provides services globally.

the company information made its way to google local (dont know how) and now it seems to get most of its traffic from that country now!

how does one change this? we have claimed ownership of the listing, done the verification and removed the listing. while it got deleted from the account... the listing still appears on the local search.

Any one has any suggestion on how to go about this situation?

thanks

Have you set global preferences in GWT? Have you got a global metatag? Looks like:
<meta name="distribution" content="global">
(That's not always necessary, but it can't hurt)

Hello not2easy, the Global Preference is unchecked in GWT... I guess we should set it to Unlisted... didnt really know of this option. What do you recon?

With regards to your traffic, have you actually lost worldwide traffic which is replaced by local traffic or is local traffic in addition to the traffic you had before?

Has your ranking changed (dropped) for areas outside your town?

As for <meta name="distribution" content="global"> meta tag, Google is not using it. But having the site set up as "Unlisted" in WMT may help in giving the right signal.

Also - have you claimed the local listing? This may be a good idea as you can then set up info on whether customers come to your location etc.
