Hello

I've now for a month a tourist website about France in the German language (with a .de domain).

The strange thing is it is better indexed (read: much higher in the Google-rankings) in google france (google.fr) compared to google germany (google.de).

In Google Webmaster Tools at Site Settings the Geographic target is "Your site's domain is currently associated with the target: Germany". So that's fine. Also the metatag language is set to "de".

Does anyone how this is possible? Had it something to do with the fact it's about france and there are much topographic names in the french language. Also when the site appears in google.de results, it's suggested to tanslate it to the german language with the google translate button. Very stange.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to WembasterWorld, website2014!

Google.de is very competitive and from my experience it is much harder to rank a site on google.de than on google.fr even when a site is geotargeted to Germany. Also, one month is a very very short time.

Thanks for your reaction!

That's really new info for me. I did't know the google.de domain was so much more competitive. Maybe I've more opportunities when I make the website in french (or spanish)

I've to wait I guess.
