Suddenly Google Webmaster Tools is showing 80% fewer backlinks

As per daily routine, Yesterday I checked my Google webmasters account to check the reports of my website. When I clicked the Links to your site section, then what I saw ?

I was shocked that it was showing 90% less amount of back-links in comparison to that of previous day.

Currently I am not seeing any issues with my keyword ranking but the number of links have dropped quite significantly.

Is this the same webmaster reporting bug, which took place earlier in Feb. and Jun 2013 too or is it any other issue which I need to rectify within my website.

Please reply as soon as possible.

If there was a problem within your website, your rankings would have suffered irrespective of the Webmaster Tools report. And since the Webmaster Tools data is at least a few days behind real time, you would almost certainly have noticed a drop in your rankings by now if you'd actually lost the value of 90% of your links. Ignore the report. It's a Googlebug.

Thanks for the reply rainborick

Actually, I was wondering that am I the only person at this time who got suffered from this bug or are there any other webmasters as well. As we all know that last time when such google webmasters bug was there, there were many webmasters who got suffered from this issue.

My backlinks reported in GWT have ALWAYS gone straight up, except since Feb. 18. I have seen a small reduction since then (about 2%). It appears that some "culling" of my links has occurred.

March will tell the tale.
