A while back tedster posted about published google docs being indexed by google but this is the first i've seen a real push for google docs showing up in the results and it's looking to be very spammish. Maybe old news or just has hit the industry i was searching in but two google docs in the top 10 results.

One looks like html, the other shows as a viewable only doc with the controls when you are logged into google account [docs.google.com...]

I don't have any experience with google docs but had the impression that it was intended for creating and storing personal or restricted-access documents.

There's varying levels of permissions you can set on docs, one being public.

Hmm.. I've got some public html pages on Dropbox where i send people from my websites, but I don't think Google indexes Dropbox documents. So now I'm wondering if I could put those pages on Google docs, then get some extra visitors if Google indexes them.
