Disavow Tool Webmaster Tools

I know the subject of Disavow links has been brought up many times, but I am still trying to find a post that tells me when we know Google is no longer using that link, from someone who has used the tool and knows the disavow tool has worked.

Do links no longer show in webmaster tools?
Or do they still show and its just guess work?

Google doesn't provide any way to tell that your disavow file has been incorporated into the algorithm. Disavowed links still show up in the list of backlinks to your site within WMT.

But what about case studies where someone's traffic returned after using the disavow tool?

This is the only way how to confirm the effect: rankings and traffic return.

The question of the TO is not "does it work", it is "how do I recognize its success"? And you often have to be patient... but it really CAN work.
