Perhaps it'd be beneficial for the discussion why you ask the question in the first place, or why you believe it may be the case.

Ah ok I am seeing tagged pages from Amazon ranking above in-depth websites on the same subject. But maybe its just me.

No it's not just you. For just about every search i do I see Amazon ranking in the top 3 slots. eBay usually figures highly too. This coupled with both having ads makes your name very fitting. Some days it's worse than others but there is no doubt both figure highly in Googles eyes.

More annoying is seeing Amazon rank 1 then a store that is a 10 min hash up ranking 2 just because they have an Amazon store too! So if you are ecom it seems you can rank page 1 with ease, just get an Amazon store & Google will boost your crappy 10 min job website to the top 3.

In my opinion, Amazon is an oligopolist and has their market carved out for them. By definition Amazon, and Google for that matter, would fall into this category if some sort of collusion were to be taking place between them. Unless anyone has any audio/video to find out what is going on behind the closed door meetings taking place at the Internet Association, that would be difficult to prove with absolute certainty. However, the fact remains that Amazon is working directly with Google at [internetassociation.org...] and that provides the platform for them to shape the internet economy to meet their profit targets.

Double standards as ever. Do as I say not as I do. I mean, look at Google itself, what is useful above the fold these days?! Ads, images, Amazon, eBay. Oh look, scroll down, there's where the Internet went!
