Hi All,

There is this weird problem I came across.

We have bought site A long ago and put a redirect to site B almost a year back or more than that.

There is this section in site B that never existed anywhere else, such as B.com/section/

But now when I look upon A.com using the site: search, Google displays pages that only exist on B.com. (/section/). And when I click on them they are not redirecting.

I am confused. Site A has redirected long back in the domain level then how come Google still have pages for it in its index? That too the current site pages which is site B.

The CMS seems to pull the exact template and content onto this long gone domain.

What's the reason behind the problem? I am much worried about duplicate content issues.

Thank you all.

I am a little confused about "And when I click on them they are not redirecting."

Are you clicking on example-a.com/siteb-page1.html?

IMHO I wouldn't be too worried about duplicate content issues since that is more about Google filtering and less about Google penalizing. When you do a regular keyword search on Google, does the content from site A or site B show up?

Where does the Site A point to? Is it to the same webspace as Site B?
If so, have you got a redirect set up from Site A to Site B even if originally there were no such page on Site A (because there will be if they point to the same webspace).

Thanks @goodroi,

I am a little confused about "And when I click on them they are not redirecting."

Nope

There is this domain level redirect set on Site A to Site B. The redirect has been put long back. But still when I search site:sitea.com in Google it returns some of the indexed pages for it. These indexed pages were never on Site A but on Site B which is the current website. This is the first problem. Secondly, when I click on any of the result pages Google generated for site:sitea.com query, they are not redirecting to Site B pages because there is already a domain level redirect where this has to redirect right?

Thanks for helping me out to understand it better.

Site A point(redirect) to Site B.

If so, have you got a redirect set up from Site A to Site B even if originally there were no such page on Site A (because there will be if they point to the same webspace).
Could you please elaborate a little about what you meant by 'webspace'?

As I mentioned above, the real problems are
1. Google displaying results for a domain which has long been discontinued and redirected.
2. Google displaying the current website pages when a site: search performed for the discontinued domain.

Thanks again!
