I have a website whose ranking was moving between 1 st and 5 th page for a highly requested keyword due to major change I did and I expecting those fluctuations.

Just as the ranking where settling I had a major bug on my website with lots of duplicate content pages ( what I mean by major I multiplied the number of pages of my website by about 25 )

I fixed the issue and my website is almost back to its original size.

My question ; what should I expect in terms of ranking see that when the bug happened google had not finished ranking me, it was still fluctuating.

Should expect it to start from scratch again as I was the first day I made the changes and before it started fluctuating or should I expect it to rank me where it last saw me before the bug ?

Thank you,

google had not finished ranking me

There's no such thing as Google finishing ranking a site.

Normally, when a webmaster makes a boo-boo that has seemed to affected crawling or ranking, it goes back to normal in a couple of weeks. I've even had a situation when I make on-site improvements and the rankings suffer temporarily, but then they bounce back in a few weeks.

Have you confirmed that Google even noticed your mistake? Did you have HTML Improvement suggestions in your GWT (duplicate meta)?

Am I right to assume we're talking about a brand-new site?

How many of those non-canonical urls did Google index? Are they now getting 301s to the canonical url? Have the non-canonical urls been recrawled?

So it goes back to normally within a few weeks after the boo-boo has been fixed, is that correct ?

Good had indexed about 750 non canonical URL for a website that has less than 50 pages.

I had about 25 similar pages of each page ( duplicate ) of my site. The thing to consider is that when the boo-boo happened google had not set its final ranking, we were in the spam indexing patent of google ( meaning when there are majors daily ranking varations due to major changes ).

Knowing that, once the boo boo is fixed are we going to start the spam indexing process again or is google going ro re- rank us faster ?
