Pesky Links in WBT

I have taken my link profile in WBT from a little over 2 million links (YIKES) down to 28k in the last couple of months.. The problem I am having is, I cant seem to get GOOGLE to crawl and remove the ones that I have removed because I got them taken down. These links appear to be article, directory style links.. Does anyone have a way to get GOOGLE Bot to notice these links have been removed.. I have been using a few different tools to get the other indexed and as i posted about it worked to a point but i have some major stubborn links..

defenseup, were these links your removed internal to your website or external (backlinks)?

If they were pages of your website, update and resubmit your sitemap in GWT and fix all crawl errors.

can you ping the pages where the links were removed?

The ones that wont come off... I have pinged and fast indexed them every 3 days for months.. It is like Google just wont crawl them and notice they are removed..

Like I stated.. I started with over 2 million and down to 28k.. I got WBT updating links 2 times a weeks but it just wont let some of them fall off.. The ones that wont come off seem to be the worst of the worst..
