2 identical sites, need an advice

I got 2 seasonal websites in english language. They have almost identical content, same images, simliar page titles, on 1 site says blue-page and on the other is page-blue. The only thing that is different is text on it but both sites have same meanings of a page but differently said. My first original site is in some coountries of Google on page 2,3,4,5,6 depending on a country and inbound links from there. The other site is not yet in the top 100 but both are doing good on Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex. On those 3 search engines both sites are in top 10 for certain keywords in some countries. So I need an advice...or just an idea what to do.

Because this second site is 4 months old and is getting better and better results in search engines other than Google but not on Google so I thought to make a 301 redirect from a second site to the original site so my original site gets even better rankings. Is this a good or bad idea? Should I at least wait for a next Google page rank update so my second site might get a page rank and then rank in Google top 100...
But than again, what if my original site gets some kind of penalty after some time after I 301 to my original page... Should I leave it the way to have 2 similiar sites without redirecting the second site to the first site?

What was your reason for creating the second site? If it was ranking on other search engines, you could disallow the new site to Googlebot only.

The reason for a second site was if the original gets penalized somehow or looses its rankings on Google than a second site could come in as am building links for it also.
It feels good to have both identical sites on first page of other search engines but I thought somehow if I redirect a new one to the old one to gain more position up, not only for other search engines but also on Google for the original site.

I just just redirected a 301 second website together with pages individualy to my original site and also reported it in WMT of a redirect. Said something about 180 days that will propagate or something for Google to take notice? Aint sure what it means but got some idea.
If I get better results now for the original website I will keep you posted. Might take weeks or months...

It sounds like you're predicting that your first site is going to get penalized at some point in time which is why you created and maintain the second site. If this is in fact the case and you're doing things you shouldn't be doing, it's (Google) going to keep catching up to you time and time again. In my opinion though, if you're not doing any black hat(ish) stuff on the second site and redirected it to the first, you'd be fine in Google's eyes. Not sure how much it's going to help it though.
