Unfollowing Paid Links?

I received a "Partial match - Unnatural Links to you site - Impact Links" penalty from Google.

I suspect it was due to the fact that I got paid posts from blog networks linking to my site.

I don't want to remove the posts/links as they are a solid stream of traffic.

My question is: Can I just ask the bloggers to no-follow the links and submit a reconsideration request?

My understanding is that yes, that SHOULD work fine, but I would love to know if anyone else has heard otherwise.

You can also disavow them because that is also the same thing as putting a nofollow on those links.

Redundant? Yes...

But it could help the manual reviewer see that you are interested solely in traffic benefit and not in page rank manipulation.

One thing to watch out for is whether those particular articles and the links that point to your site have been scraped or syndicated on lots of other sites. That might complicate things.
