index,nofollow to prevent negative seo flow?

We have a page on our site that was hit pretty hard with some negative SEO about a year ago. I've been working to clean it up, but the page is used by a ton of internal teams, and I haven't 404'd it yet (in addition to the backlink cleanup).

I just added a index,nofollow tag to see if I can keep any negative value from flowing to the rest of the site from this page.

Good idea?

It's a possibility, but many here who have tried that approach report not seeing any improvement. I'd be very interested in gearing how it works for you.
