How fast are WMT duplicates refreshed after setting a canonical URL?

I noticed serious issues with dupe descriptions and titles in my joomla sites.

I found a tool that is supposed to fix the dupe problems by setting a canonical URL.

What I am not sure of is - If I have dupe descriptions, then set the canonical fix in my joomla site, how long will it be before the dupe is no longer reported in Webmaster tools? ie.. Immediately or the next time google does crawl?

It must re-crawl the page to see the canonical link element implemented on it. And even then it could be some time after it has been recrawled.

If you allow your pages to be cached in Google (bad idea) all you need to do is check the page cache date to see if it's been crawled and then check for WMTs associated update.

The real problem is if your dupes caused those pages to become supplemental as they don't crawl the supplemental stuff very often and you could be waiting quite some time just to get crawled.

While Googlebot might crawl quickly and update the index instantly the WMTs seems to be on a snail's schedule so don't hold your breath but it will update... eventually

yea really, I was just noticing that I have no stats on anything in my GWT since April 23.

Duplicates in WMT won't disappear because they are detected when Googlebot crawls the URLs. Caninicalization will take place after that.
