When it comes to duplicate content,

Say we write 4 different reviews about a branded product, titled
Brand Name Widget 2011 Review,
Brand Name Widget 2012 Review,
Brand Name Widget 2013 Review,
...and at last
Brand Name Widget 2014 Review.

All have unique meta description and unique content inside, yet, are they all treated as duplicate content?

No, that's not duplicate content. It wouldn't even get flagged in Webmaster Tools as duplicate titles.

Duplicate content occurs when more than one unique URL retrieves essentially the same page from a server. That's not your situation.

Aha! But what does "essentially the same content" mean?

The same content can be published on several different sites, exactly the same word for word and several paragraphs deep. But each site may have different header, footer and side meanus full of all sorts of stuff.

Hi tedster and kendo, thank you very much for your replies.

I started losing traffic from November 2012 and today it is just 20% of the actual traffic. Can you please suggest me the steps to recover. Have been hit continuously by many panda updates.

I am in some great trouble and any help from your side is very appreciated. Thank you.

I used a tool and analyzed my google analytics and it confirmed the panda at various stages from Nov.

I always emphasized on good content but many scarpers have copied hundreds of my pages as-it-is.

On googling, the scaper sites comes up over mine. I don't understand how to tackle this menace.

That is a good question,
or also the contrary, same header, footer and a huge menu, only the content that vary, and in many cases the content are similar, at least part of it, even though not equal.

I read:
"We also know from a prior discussion that if the site is violating a lot of people or will not honor a DMCA but is running AdSense ads, then it can be reported and will likely have its AdSense account terminated."

Thank you for the tip helenp. Everyday.

I have to spend hours reporting the scarpers instead of writing :(
