Unknown Domain Redirecting to My Domain

Hi all,

Just ran across something that seems strange and I am wondering if I should worry about it or not, and if so, what should I do about it.

I was setting up an anti spam plugin on my website and noticed in the logs that there was a domain redirecting to my website. It is not in the same niche and I do not own or control it. It is not as bad as an xxx site but it is a niche that is highly competitive and has a lot of spam sites. Part of that niche no longer is legal in the states.

Should I be worried about adverse effects of rankings, and if so, what should I do?

Thanks!

This could indirectly join you into a 'bad neighborhood' in a search kind of way.

I would try to contact them and explain what you have found.

I would also include a polite thanks, but no thanks for their efforts closing.

You should investigate the other site carefully to try to determine why it would be re-directing to your site. Do you think it's a deliberate attempt to sabotage your rankings? You might try to contact the owner for an explanation. Have your rankings and traffic dropped recently?

I am not sure when it happened, and I contacted my hosting company. They are contacting the owner but suggested that I just add the domain to my server and serve the generic server page which I have done. The IP address was pointing at my server for some reason.
