Old site image shows in WMT account for www version

This is a weird one. About 3 weeks ago I revamped one of my sites with a new design and other changes. I have both the www and non-www version verified in WMT as recommended. Both are set to a www preferred. On top of that I redirect all non-www to www in htaccess. All those settings have been in place for years.

Well, after a few days at most the screenshot image of the new design showed in my WMT account, but only for the non-www version. Naturally I thought the other would update shortly after. Well, it has been about 3 weeks now and the old site design is still shown for the www version of the site. I double checked and both are set to www preferred, htaccess is correct, etc... those were all the same settings from the previous design.

It makes me think something is wrong, but everything is correct and the settings never changed from the previous design.

This has never happened with any of my other sites in wmt before... ideas?

I doubt this is something to worry about if you have redirects in place. Sounds to me like it may just be a quirk in Google's screenshot grabber.

if you search directly for the site, and hit the two right arrows to show a screengrab, is that image up to date?

Actually the screenshot for the index page still shows the old site when using the preview arrow in the search results... what the heck is with this?

Those images can sometimes take weeks to update.

... but the non-www version is correct and was almost instantly after the change (day or so) like I said in the op.

It could be something as simple as your BEST link is pointing to the non-canonical version of the home page. So they refreshed the non-canonical's image first.

Nothing to worry about IMO. Should sort itself out in time.
