Hi all,

I hope someone can help.

I have a site that ranks well in Google. I created a Wordpress Blog a few months back and have been adding 2 articles per week. However, when I do a search in google like-

[site:www.http://www.example.co.uk/]

it lists all my pages except for the /blog pages.

There are a lot of links to the blog subdirectory from the home page. WHy isn't Google listing them with the main site pages?

Thanks

:-)

First things first, be careful with your site: search syntax asn you have an error in the example above (www.http://).

Do you show pages when you search for site:example.co.uk/blog?

A quick test is to copy one of your blog URLs, and then search for it directly with the syntax:

id:example.co.uk/blog/blog-entry.html

If this shows you results, then you're some way along to solving the problem.

Thanks Andy

The problem with the url syntax must have been made by the moderators of this site when they edited my domain name to "example.co.uk."

I just noticed that Wordpress wasn't showing www. in my url so I have changed that now. I then did a search using {site:mydomain.co.uk] and all my blog pages list ok. Problem may be that Google isn't associating them to the main site like that. I don't know. I do have a sitemap registered with Google Webmaster for the WP blog.

I have changed the blog to www.mydomain.co.uk so I hope that will allow Google to link my WP blog to the main site and help me with ranking.

Is it normal for Google not to link a www to a non-www site like that? I thought it had resolved canonicalization issues with websites now?

It's actually up to you to ensure Google (and everybody else) knows whether you want your site to include (or not include) the www. It's possible to run different sites on each, of course!

The best solution is to permanently redirect one to the other. Failing that, use a rel=canonical attribute. The last option is to configure this via Google Webmaster Tools.
