The Google 46th Anniversary of 'Star Trek' logo is a complete interactive narrative. Some Googlers must be Trekkies. ;)

It makes me think of another 'Star Trek' tribute, viewable on Hulu here...

Star Trek: The Last Voyage of the Starship Enterprise
Saturday Night Live...

Deja foo

Someone in another forum recently used the words "vous etes foo" (accent intentionally omitted to avoid File Encoding Problem). Still not sure if it was intentional.

Soulever les boucliers!

mettre en place les boucliers

:: detour to look up "bouclier" in actual dead-tree dictionary ::

Wouldn't what you do with it depend on whether you're talking about arms or armor?

:: further detour to investigate link ::

You know you're the wrong age when

(a) you get horribly distracted wondering why a 1968 car is verbally described (though not visually pictured) as having plates from several years later
(b) you're halfway through the segment before you remember that you've seen it before, possibly even on its original broadcast

<OT linguistic diversion>
"Soulever" is normally used in French ..where in English the sense would be to "remove"..like "enlever"..occasionally it will be used as in "lift" ..like with theatre curtains..in which case one is lifting / removing them to allow the scene to be viewed..not placing them to protect what is behind them..

LG - Thanks for the clarifications. I knew I'd be putting my foot into it when I posted, probably causing old French teachers to roll over in their graves, but it was late and I wanted to respond.

In the cold light of day, and in the light of your comments, the wrongness of "soulever" floats up at me like a levitating ghost. ;)

I should have gotten "pour toi" rather than "pour tu" without your help... just from memories of my favorite Truffaut movies.

To bring this back around to the Enterprise, one wonders how the crew, from such diverse backgrounds, managed avoid intergalactic language differences as one of problems.

PS re the Saturday Night Live Star Trek episode... I purposely didn't post the punchline, which is so good that I've never forgotten the episode. Didn't want to spoil it for others.

In the same way as the UN and the EU do when the translators go on strike ( has happened ) ..they use English .. :)

Yes, it was a play on words fou (meaning crazy) and foo (forum) :)
