Custom URLs for profiles and pages: a first step

At first, we’re introducing custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. But over time we plan to offer custom URLs to many more brands and individuals, so please stay tuned!

Eg.

A custom URL is a short, easy to remember web address that links directly to your profile or page on Google+. For instance, +TOYOTA can now use google.com/+toyota to unveil their latest models

Google Employee recently announced the news on Google+ regarding G+ coustom URL, saying that vanity URLs will initially only be available on a limited basis. But for this you have to verify your G+ page. you can request for Google+ page verification here: [support.google.com ]

On your given link i found:

Verification for Google+ pages is available to a wide range of businesses and organizations.

This is for G+ business & organizations page verification.

Why not for personal profile?
