Old pages down after Penguin... newly-added pages ranking

OK the majority of our profile pages were hit by Penguin ranking down 20 pages. However, it would appear that if I add a new profile page, that these pages are ranking page 1 or 2 on Google.

Any ideas why ?

One reason might be that Penguin is not a real time algorithm. In fact, after it's original launch Penguin was only re-run one time.

Any time a new page is published it gets ranked "without Penguin" until Penguin is run again.

In addition for some strange reason some old profile pages do still rank on page 1 Yrt others dont.

Why would that be ?

Probably because the old profile pages have purchased backlinks pointing to them (or over optimized backlinks) and others dont.
