when I go to google using http it changes to https and then the search and results are in Japanese. I guess this is a bug or virus but I cannot find anything on the internet about this. It started happening about 2 days ago and I have check the language setting which is English. Firstly, why does it go to https secondly why is it in Japanese. Any ideas please would be greatly appreciated.

Do you get redirected if you visit the 'no country redirect' page?

[google.com...]

The Japanese results part does sound like a bug. Do you go to Google Search while signed in to any Google service? Note the following discussions:

Google Encrypts Searches for Logged In Users [webmasterworld.com]
Firefox switching to HTTPS Google search by default [webmasterworld.com]
Google to stop giving referral data - by moving to SSL [webmasterworld.com]

Yea, maybe the whole language detection thing is off. We have a thread in the AdSense forum about ads in Arabic showing up on sites that are not in that language. I had one yesterday on one of my sites targeted to Wisconsin.

Okay with regards to Tedsters suggestion I was logged into Google Adwords so I signed out and you are right the http does not direct to https now. so one problem sorted, however, Google was still in Japanese

could this account for the traffic losses many webmasters are reporting starting June 9?

I've had adsense displaying ads about a file I had on my desktop before, Google is very aggressive in collecting data from your computer so make sure that your keyboard language preferences don't have an entry for Japanese. In Windows 8 there are a LOT of gamers complaining that their keyboards are changing languages on them mid game, especially to french. The backslash key typically becomes a question mark. The keyboard setting might be misleading Google?

Other odities, when you visit a yahoo article and immediately load up adsense you may find that the adsense graph points have the yahoo article title as the alt/title text for those points. Google javascript is capturing some things it should not be, when logged into your Google account anyway.

Key assignments are internal to your computer and can't possibly affect google-- unless you accidentally change something and then actually send the wrong character. It's completely unrelated to system language, which of course is right there in your UA string. At least for some systems and some languages, heh heh.*

The gamers will probably find that a keyboard shortcut used for switching between keyboard layouts happens to coincide with a common key sequence used in the game. Anyone remember Prince of Persia and the Shift key? :)
