Peak Google traffic days have shifted, but why?

Like clockwork my site has had a predictable traffic pattern with a predictable low traffic day(Saturday) and that has evolved very slowly. e.g. several years ago Thursday was the low traffic day, then Friday and until earlier this month Saturday. The pattern repeats, even as reported by GWT, where the day before and the day after the "low" day are also lower than the rest of the week, resulting in a chart with a sawtooth appearance.

The teeth have changed abruptly this month. The "low" day now lasts two days, Saturday and Sunday, and the drop preceding it also lasts two days (Thursday and Friday) while Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday remain the same. My peak days in traffic from Google.

The question is why. Thursday to Sunday is the prime shopping time so is Google sending me fewer visitors during this period or are shoppers surfing less during this period or... something else entirely? My site is informational so perhaps I'm being shut out of more prime shopping time traffic? Perhaps people just don't browse as much during the weekends?

I would assume that shopping portals and sites would have increased traffic from Thurs-Sat would they not? Just curious as to your thoughts on this and to know if your daily traffic patterns changed in May.

No change for me. My traffic has been in this pattern for a few years. Its pretty much the same with other clients that I have worked with.

M: 10
T: 9
W: 9
R: 7
F: 7
S: 5
S: 6

I understand that if you are heavily dependent on mobile, Sat and Sun are much busier days for you. Less people are at their desks and more are out and about.

Is the traffic still coming from the same keywords, or have they shifted?

I don't know what the buying cycle is for your users, but from what I've picked up from your post, it sounds like maybe they research during the week and buy on the weekends. If your traffic driving keywords have shifted to be more informational and less transactional, that could explain the drop in traffic during peak buying days? What are you seeing on that front?

Or maybe it's just been ridiculously nice outside and nobody is using the internet on the weekends:)

I think your keywords are less transactional but you can see most of the traffic comes from that so you should go for the proper analysis phase for your website.
