I have an onsite search generated page for a good keyword phrase that is ranking well in Google serps but has no content in it.

the url is similar to this:
domain/index.php?ps=KEYWORD

My question is how can I populate this page with meaningful content?

or if I set up a separate page optimized for this keyword & do a permanent re-direct from the php generated page to the new optimized page will I lose my search engine ranking for the old blank page?

many thanks...

Good question. I have a site that started ranking well with virtually no content, untouched for years. Add content that could be valuable to the visitors and I risk that it will get graded into oblivion like my other sites.

Yes that's what worries me as well - do I leave it as is & maybe pick up a bit of adsense revenue or put up a content optimized page to try & capitalize on the high ranking keyword.

This is also another example of Google's Penguin update not improving the user experience, ie not providing the best search results for a popular keyword

Just because it's there today doesn't mean it'll be there tomorrow, even untouched.

Sounds like an Amazon page. Always ranking #1 and so many of the pages I see there do not have any content on the page.

But the point the poster is making is that it has been untouched for years. Yes, the pessimist might say what you said, but the realist will say if it's beem there fot years it will probably be be there for many more years. The optimist will say it might be there forever.

Would I change it? Absolutely not! If I was to change it then I would do it very, very gradually and not worry about Penguin / Panda or any other animals that might come along.

I wouldn't change it either. I have pages like this.

But I wouldn't depend on it staying there, either.

Everything doesn't make it on to Google's radar right away, but one day they may tune the radar, and poof.
