Bounce rates from bogus traffic impacting SERPs?

Have a client who was slammed by a site sending traffic that bounced immediately right after attaining a top spot in a competitive area and thinks the bogus traffic may have been sent to get the site dropped

anyone noticing drops if 100s of thousands of pageviews are done and get immediate bounces
