Quick Question,

I have two pages on my website describing widgets. One of them is our Widgets Product page and the other one is a widgets how to page.

We I do a search in Google for the term "widgets" the How to page comes up, I'd rather have the widgets Product page come up.

Is there anything that I can do to make this happen?

Thanks-in-Advance,

John

Common issue - and the best answer I can give you is "not usually". You can play around with the on-page semantics and backlinks for the two pages, but that's getting dangerous these days. You're probably better off to wait for Google to do better.

Thx tedster.

I didn't think there was anything I could do. As long as people are getting to the website I guess it's a good thing.

Maybe I can put a link on the Widgets How To page back to the main Widgets page?

Is this a recent phenomenon? Or has it always been this way?

If you aren't sure, then you can look in your google analytics and see if there was a distinct drop in traffic starting on a particular day.

I experienced something similar and I am pretty sure it was due to Penguin, and if your page was "replaced" in the SERPs on a particular day, it MIGHT be due to the Penguin update.

But you wouldn't be able to tell unless there was a distinct drop in traffic to that page starting on a particular day.

In my case, it appears that my landing page was replaced by my home page for the PLURAL form blue widgets due to Penguin. The singular form still ranks.

Make sure that the page that ranks has a prominent link to the other page you want people to look at. Check your analytics to see how effective that turns out.
