Small* and highly unscientific sample, but mildly interesting all the same. I went over to a php/bb forum and made a poll. Forum participants probably know a little more about computers and the internet than the 50% average person; more than that I wouldn't commit to. Two weeks later:

I use Google Preview...

all the time to help me pick a page   0%   [ 0 ]
sometimes, depending on what my search is   5%   [ 2 ]
sometimes, depending on the whim of the moment   5%   [ 2 ]
only when I mouse-over it by accident   37%   [ 14 ]
never   21%   [ 8 ]
What's Google Preview?   29%   [ 11 ]

Total Votes : 37

* Darn! I should have thought to include "cats" or "chocolate" in the poll's subject line.

You have to wonder sometimes about the purpose of all the "clutter" in Google results these days. The preview thing I've never really seen the use of - except on a mobile, where it has a slightly different interface and can be a timesaver sometimes.
