I have a clean content rich site nice site but somehow it could hit or penalised in panda. The site is in wordpress.

Now If I use the same content and wordpress theme of old site on my new domain, will google recognize this content [600 pages] is from old penalised site ?

I plan to pull down the old site and then upload the new site with old content.

To be safe, I plan to upload new site after 1 week of pulling down old site.

Has anyone experimented with this ? Does google penalize content or domain ?

If the content was what triggered a penalty (Panda or otherwise) then you'll probably only run for a short while until you hit the same problem again.

It's certainly possible to overcome penalties by "starting again", but if it's a site with the same problems as before, you're likely to have the same algorithmic triggers, and the same ranking issues - even if you might regain rankings in the short term. But if you constantly have to move and rebuild, it might be time to think of something deeper you can do to overcome problems.

It was part of our blognet work of 50 plus sites with inter-linking, which knocked us down.

However, this site is clean with good articles.

I feel using the old content on new domain with new who is details should be a good idea.

Well, Panda as I've seen it is not about links, but about onsite characteristics, so that makes it slightly different.

If you've had a "link slap", then you might easily get away with republishing on a "clean" site. But bear in mind that you would still need to build up links, trust and authority with a new site in order to get rankings back.

From a purely practical point of view, whatever effort is involved in that needs to be weighed against the possibility that your rankings may not return on a new domain, and also that it may be possible to recover on the existing domain.

In terms of pure theory, yes, you can republish on a separate domain name and get around some penalties. It isn't too dissimilar from Google ranking many copies of the same news articles. If Google thinks the content is different, you will not start with negative factors. But if you're Pandalised, it's a different story, and whether this approach is the best choice for you is a different question!

I don't think it's a good plan, but good luck to you.

Fwiw I tried this once. I sold a domain (that had been G indexed just over 12 months) and the new owner didn't want the content which had good rankings. About 6 months on, I launched a site on the same topic and used the old content and (2 years later) it has never performed even to a fraction of the previous site.

Nothing conclusive but I wouldn't do it again.
