Merging With Competitors

I want to open up this subject because I have not seen it here on this board yet.

In my niche I have some heavy weight on first page results on decent keywords in Google.

My idea is that maybe I can combine my site with one of my competitors that competes with me. I wonder what would happen if we redirected all links thru redirects to one common domain and combined both sites info. Might be risky but it might pay off.

If you think about it, 2 major sites combined for a particular niche just might take top seo results. Combining linking power could be a good thing.

It's bad idea, haveing two domains with active websites on them is always better from SEO pov or at least I have only negative experiences with all sort of "mergers".

the only way it will work is by combining resources/collaboration not just sites. If you have 1 good website + another good website = 2 good websites.

But I think you are looking to amplify opportunity, which in this case is:

1 good team + another good team = an amazing army

Do I assume snickles121 that you don't work in the real world, solely the cyber world?

I'm not been rude when I ask that, just trying to grasp what you feel you would gain by doing it? Being top for loads of keywords is not necessarily the answer if you are not converting whatever it is you are attempting to do.

Simply, are you trying to sell advertsing space or physical products?

Huskypup, I mostly work in the cyberworld, but still design and manage websites for businesses in my local area.

Note: 75% income from cyberworld and 25% real world.

PS. Sorry for the delay in response, had a rush website order.

We are also only selling ad space in cyberworld and my idea is that if I take 2 websites (one from me and one from competitor) we could combine them along with the links by merging and overtake the search results.

For example if I am number 6 and the other guy is number 5 for a specific main topic phrase in search results, by merging I hope to accomplish taking number one spot. However, the downfall is we could merge and not be able to take the spots therefore making less than if we were still seperated.

Has anyone ever done this with positive results?
