I've got these category and sub category pages with much of the same content... but, a lot of content that is also unique. The problem is that the products are making the content appear like it is more than 50% duplicate. My goal is to no-index (hide) from google the duplicated products on the sub categories... while giving it the unique, quality content describing the category. Is that possible?

I see that a Russian search engine allows you to noindex areas of content... but, I don't see anywhere where Google allows for that. Anybody have any experience with this?

This topic has come up several times over the years, because Adsense allows portions of a page to be skipped, and organizations that use a Google Search Appliance have also had a similar option.

So far - no joy for the ordinary web page. Google prefers to make the decision on their own about how to weight the importance of various segments of a page.

You could iframe part of the page you do not want to be indexed, and then either stop the iframe URL via robots.txt or just meta noindex page that is iframed or just let it be indexed as one single URL.

We did that with a two-paragraph of disclaimer that was repeated on 300+ pages (and on some pages outweighed the content) - we noindexed the iframed URL almost a year ago and saw no problems.

Here are some options. Each option has good & bad points. So think it through before you implement.

-iframes
-hide text in images
-use foreign characters that look like english characters characters [webmasterworld.com...]
