Is it better to simply delete thin page, or noindex it?

I'm just wondering, would it be better to just completely delete a thin page, so it gives a 404 and then remove all links pointing to it.

Or is it better to noindex the page and then remove all links to it? (so it's like an orphaned, noindexed page.)

What would you do?

One other specific piece of guidance we've offered is that low-quality content on some parts of a website can impact the whole site’s rankings, and thus removing low quality pages, merging or improving the content of individual shallow pages into more useful pages, or moving low quality pages to a different domain could eventually help the rankings of your higher-quality content.

Just choose what you want to do with that page. If you want to delete it better a 404, if you want to work on it or merge content, noindex it until it's fixed.
