Broad matching / stemming in AdWords vs. Organic Search

Does anybody know if the broad matching and stemming filter that is used in google adwords is exactly the same as the one that is used to deliver the organic search results?

I guess no one knows for sure, outside Google. My educated guess is that they cannot be "exactly" the same because the two have slightly different functions, and both would be driven by machine learning based on the context where the semantic adjustments are made.
