Ladies and gentlemen, we have a PageRank update.

I just looked up the PR of my site and found out that I suddenly have a PR3 for the home page and the subpages have PR2.

So were you lucky this time or lost your PR?

Do you guys see a massive traffic change after the pagerank update?

As explained in earlier threads:

a. the tool bar page rank is not necessarily the same as the internal page rank used in developing the SERPs.

b. internal page rank is only one of many factors used in developing the SERPs.

c. Google deliberately updates the tool bar page rank out of synch with the internal page rank used in developing the SERPs -- to ensure the green pixels can't be reliably used to reverse engineer their algorithms, test the impact of various SEO strategies, etc.

My own view is that over the long run, the green pixels are interesting, and fun to observe, but they aren't a reliable indicator of traffic, SERP positions, or much of anything else important.

The scale has changed, it's easier to get into the middle tier (4-5-6) and harder to stay in the upper tier (7-8-9).

As others have reported, my PR is up a notch but my traffic remains down from this time last year. PR does not equal traffic.

Haha, one of my sites has dropped from a PR3 to a PR2.

Not bad, considering it has said 'This site is down due to a billing problem' for the last 7 months.

Should probably do something about that sometime.

PR does not equal traffic.
It never has.

Ran this on 200 websites I monitor and roughly the gainers offset the losers compared to the last PR update in October.

Very nice to see our competitor drop from 6 to 5 (they purchase A LOT of blog links...many from realistic slick looking blogs that aren't even real/organic but google falls for all of it).

It does seem to be easier to get promoted into the 3-6 PR range.

Mobile sites (I monitor about 20) don't seem to be recording PR...with few exceptions.

Had one quirky site jump from PR 0 to PR 4 within a month. Several months ago it had been purchased by a PR4 site and just had a simple welcome page and 5 second delay js redirect to the 'mother site'. The mother site is pr 4, so perhaps google is conflating the two...weird...

It's 2011 isn't it? Only when I saw this on the front page I thought we might accidentally have regressed to 2001.

Stop chasing PageRank ! It's old style. Built great websites and value added content and you can't fail.

Makes sense. When's the last time you've seen someone link to the Google homepage? For what reason?

This PR update is messed up, it will almost certainly be redone, or tweaked soon. Google and Facebook PR is 9? No way... plus if you've been on other SEO forums you might have seen the PR bug where a 3 month old website with 1 crappy backlink went to PR9! I am not kidding... I'd post s link but the site is not worth linking too... it will most certainly be redone again very soon.

Why would it be redone.. Visible pagerank is meaningless. I can't believe pagerank still gets talked about.

Its been said recently that PR influences rankings , by MC. Now I don't know if anything coming from his mouth is worth the truth .

Visible PageRank is not meaningless because sometime in the past few months, it is a rough value which can be relied on to a varying degree. So many people here say that it's meaningless, but it isn't. I rarely see a grey bar or 0PR ranking #1 for a competitive term; maybe between 4-10 for a limited period of time, but rarely #1 in the SERPs.

Look at the top sites of the web and they all have a high PR because they are popular and people link to them. While I believe Google has changed their reliance on the green pixels, it is still an important indicator.

No doubt PR does to some degree, but visible PR is a fixed point and the PR changes daily which we don't see.

And of course, if Matt says so, then it must be true because I believe every word he says ;)

If people still think PR is the end to be all, then they are are just a few years behind the curve or a link seller.
