Weird "Wordpress Update Available" Message in GWT

Yesterday (Sept. 15) I got a WordPress Update Available message in my GWT. It says this:

"As of the last crawl of your website, you appear to be running WordPress 3.2."

That's weird. I have updated to 3.2.1 (latest version) in mid-July. Does it mean that their last crawl of my site was before mid-July, but after July 5 when I updated to 3.2? I see in stats that they actually crawl the site multiple times a day, but that July crawl was maybe a deep crawl. Was there any deep crawl after that?

I'm curious about this because if that WP version check was a part of a large algo-related crawl, it means that I'm ranked this month based on their 2 month old deep crawl.

Google were concerned about the massive number of malware infected sites they were crawling. They figured that Wordpress, Joomla, vBulletin, PHPbb, ZenCart, osCommerce and several dozen other packages are installed on millions of domains, and it is many of these which are infected in some way.

Google instigated a program to warn people to update. I suspect that process runs only once-in-a-while, not as regularly as other data updates.

Knowing what to look for for a certain Joomla exploit that was live a few years ago, I see there are still some ~170 000 domains listed in Google that show evidence of having been hacked back then and that have not fixed the issue since!

There are a lot of very careless webmasters out there.
