Is there any evidence that mailto links have SEO value?

It will surely get you spammed, but is there any evidence that posting "mailto" links or just plain email addresses will have any effect on that domain?

For example, if "john@example.com" is found in some page text, it might suggest that John has an account at example.com, and so example.com must be important.

No idea however they may favour example@gmail.com!

I can see them using a mailto: address for discovery, if they didn't already have that domain indexed. But I'm not seeing why it could be a ranking help for the target site, or for the site with the mailto: link either. Maybe if was on a verified author page, or something like that.
