Site was down for 2 days and seems that it lost its ranking.

I was on a vacation when my host decided to block access to the site due to database issue. I couldn’t handle this until coming back.
Now the site is up but it looks like it has lost 80% of its traffic.
Google has crawled the site since and before getting it up.

Any experience in that case and suggestions are appreciated.

I think there's a good chance it will recover its rankings fairly soon provided everything is completely fixed (you should double-check everything). If the site doesn't recover within a few days, you should send a reconsideration request to Google.

Two days passed and only one visit of the Google crawler.
At this point of time, the site gets 50% of the traffic.
Is there a way to ask for intensifying crawler visits?

I have no idea if this will help, but...

If you go to webmaster tools you can go into fetch as googlebot and crawl some of your particularly important pages.

Then there is a feature that will allow you to "submit" those pages to google (after you have use the fetch as googlebot).

This may not have ANY value whatsoever, but it probably couldn't hurt, I guess.

BTW: A while back I did a bonehead thing and put a noindex meta tag on my home page (purely by accident). I know there is a big difference between having an entire site down for a few days and having a noindex tag on the home page, but I just wanted to let you know that it took a week from the time I discovered and removed that noindex tag until that page was indexed again in google.

So I don't know if that helps either, but maybe others will chime in and you can develop a better time frame for when things might return to normal.

I've seen this before. It took a month to re-rank though.

Eric you are probably right.
Two weeks passed.
Googlebot visits the site every day - and the site is getting 80% of the traffic.
