I'm upgrading one of my sites CMS. In the new version, paging works slightly differently, in that clicking page 2 of comments, actually loads a new url. domain.com/post/page_2 for example.
Would adding the canonical tag to page_2 +, fix the potential duplicate content issue?
It's an existing, successful site, so I want to ensure I don't do any damage when upgrading.
Many thanks.

I am lost - why would this be an issue? If page 2 has different comments than page 1, then these are two different pages.
If however adding new comments show on page 1, with previously added comments then sliding on page 2, then temporarily the previously cached page 1 and newly cached page 2 may show the same (or greatly overlapping) content unitil Google re-caches page 1 again. In this case I would suggest to noindex pages 2 onwards.
