Hi all,

I have a weird problem. Our websites snapshot (On Google) displays properly on paid search, but on our organic result - half the images don't appear.

Any ideas what could be going on?

Hello jtotheb, and welcome to the forums.

When the snapshots were first introduced at Google, there were a lot of bugs but them seem to have settled down. Yours is the first report in a while.

By any chance do your pages use any .swf files?

Hi Tedster,

Thanks for your response. Apologies for the delay.

It would appear there is some .swf on the page - a Twitter widget. Could this be the issue?

Many thanks for your time.

Regards,

Jon

Some pages with .swf files did have Snapshot problems early on, but a Twitter widget doesn't seem to be a likely cause.

Does your page have any major validation errors?

Is it always the same images that don't display? First step is to take a closer look at them.

Are the images themselves different in any way? Different extension? Stored in a different directory? Different server? Format problem? (For example, some browsers will display a png that you accidentally renamed jpg, while others will crash, explode or melt down.)

Now the image linking. Any differences there? <img src> versus some other type? Some background, some foreground? Any difference in extras like height and width declarations? Are the problem images all in a particular section of the page (styled div or anything distinctive)?

Oh, and it never hurts to clear your browser cache ;)
