Just got an email from google asking us to implement some more rich snippets. We already do a few for the addresses and reviews, but they are pushing rich snippets for events as well.

Some of the stuff they mentioned sounded quite cool. you can add links for tickets now, which might appear in the serps one day. you can already get the event's address and start/end date to appear.

but the cynic in me says that google just wants us to do more rich snippets so they can pull the info for the top of their SERPs pages. they already do stuff like that for cinema listings.

do you think there's any benefit in doing rich snippets? some people think that rich snippets are the "future". I know that it looks nice in the SERPs, but do we actually get any benefit out of it?

I think the main reason for this is push is the mobile/local market.

Seems to me that even is info is pulled to the top of the pages, sites still get traffic interested in conversions from links that are included. And if it's a market niche where Google is competing for conversions, then rich snippets from other sites would still help those other sites to compete.
