Fixed canonical & soft 404s - Now rankings have tanked

So I have a 6 year old widget price comparison website. The last couple of years I haven't given it much love because Google didn't. However the last couple of months, since the Panda update it has seen an increase in visitors, not a great amount, around 200 unique a day. But for some nice keywords that were converting.

Anyway, I thought I would clean the site up a bit to see if I could increase rankings by fixing soft 404s and implementing canonical urls for urls with query strings at the end (I was already noindexing these with meta robots).

Now a day after the changes, rankings for all keywords have gone. My site cannot be found anywhere!

All changes I made are technically sound.

Do you think these changes are the cause of the loss in rankings?

Another one losing sitewide rankings. Something is going on with Google. Did you check you backlinks in webmaster tools? Some reported them missing and those backlinks are not back yet. Google is silent on the issue and not firmed that IT is fixed. Not sure If something has to do with that.

I'm tired of my site SERPs bouncing all over the place still...

Probably coincidence, but it is possible you have made some crazy error that Google doesn't like.

Looking in the logs I see a visit from mountain view today. So it looks like the canonical work has triggered something which warranted a manual review.

Just hope the goog deems my site worthy of being in their index.

Are you sure it is a google employee?

There are a LOT of people with internet access in Mountain View. Not all of them work at google.
