i have a streaming site....

The content is 100% user posted... site gets traffic of 10000 per day, a brand in its niche

we recently received dmca for a couple of movies (full movies) which some naughty members posted in our site...

We aptly removed the links... but our ranking (traffic) dropped around 90% between friday and saturday ........

We are also not ranking like we used to before for our popular terms....

Could it be because the movie studio complained to google and they pushed us down?

Typically when someone files a DMCA request with Google, the end result is the offending webpage being removed from the serps. If you don't appear in the serps you can't rank. I do not know your situation but this is what generally occurs with DMCA.

I encourage you to become familiar with DMCA filings and penalties for false reports.

Hahahahaha... okay, *not* laughing at you goodroi - just at the idea of penalties. Filing a DMCA is done in "good faith". You honestly believed someone was violating your content - oops, you were wrong. The DMCA attacks that I have seen were done behind a dead drop email and one-time use cell phone. A laptop using an unsecured wifi or public wifi also helps.

If someone wants to punch your ticket with a DMCA attack it is difficult to defend - or at least time consuming.

Rankings can get hurt if your in-bound links are attacked - even well upstream if the attacker is smart.

yes goodroi, i know individual pages get removed, but this is the first time i am seeing a major devalation (shift) in traffic......... it seems that the terms and pages which were no.1 are not even in top 100 anymore.... they are still in google index but not ranking no matter what

I'm with you on that - I've never seen or heard of a sitewide devaluation following a DMCA takedown of a few pages. It looks like something more is going on.

Might have been a coincidence? Some are reporting an update this weekend too
