Can FaceBook "Like" lead to duplicate content issues?

Hi there, Everyone:

So we have a Facebook like button on our product pages, set up with Open Graph (OG) Tags.

One thing that happens when someone likes one of our product pages is that their Facebook page will show our product information, including our product description.

Could this lead to duplicate content issues? After all, our product descriptions will be appearing on our own site, and also appearing on peoples' FaceBook pages.

Thanks in advance for letting us know your thoughts.

Shouldn't be an issue, imo.

thanks for the response, Mad Scientist.

How about for something like Google Merchant (aka google base / froogle), where we would be submitting the product descriptions?

(Our descriptions would otherwise be unique to our products - they are NOT manufacture supplied descriptions).

I think as long as you're the originator you'll be fine AND here's one thing about what you're doing: It sounds like they're Your products, so even if there's an issue with someone else showing You still get the sale if I'm understanding correctly.

There are some sites I actually pull all the .htaccess scraper blocks off of, because they sell my products or promote my products and you can't get those anywhere else, so if someone want to scrape, promote and try to out rank me for my products for free they can scrape away and have fun with it, because at the end of the day, when someone wants the product, I'm the one they pay... ;)

One thing about Google and duplicate content is from what I've heard, they Want you to let them find it so they can sort it out ... The biggest issue I know of is on your site it splits link weight, so it's not a very good idea to have if you can consolidate ... Externally, when you need people to visit your site, because you sell someone else's products, yeah, it's a big deal if someone else out ranks you, but if it's Your product and Your the only place people can get it, then imo, there's not too much to worry about, because who cares when the person buying has to send you the money to have the product?
