How big are the Panda ranking drops?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me, if your pages have been hit by the Panda algorithm, does it rank a lot of the pages at the back of the search for that keyword, making it look like a -950 penalty? Or does the site get a mixture of ranking drops for sitewide keywords?

Cheers,
Wesiwyg

I'm seeing both reports, but the deep demotions are getting more attention.

We dropped back in Dec 29th, and unfortunately didn't check to see whether we were at the "back of the queue" for our good pages then (they were nowhere to be seen though), or whether Panda has demoted them even further...so trying to get a feel on whether we have a penalty that has existed for a few months or pure Panda (or both!).

I've been Pandalized on several sites. My big authority sites that were hit all dropped about 5-10 places in the ranks. Doesn't sound big, but 50% of Keywords were moved from Page 1 to page 2. Traffic down 65% on average.

My younger sites that were Pandalized are looking like a -50 penalty.

Hi Pjman, but none so severe as a 950 "go to the back of the queue job" (which is good news for you as you can work at rising again :), has anyone had this from Panda, and if so, I am assuming such a penalty means the site failed at every possible Panda checklist?

There are some reports in other threads of Panda losses that look like the old minus 950 penalty. Right now, it looks like anything is possible

Just doing the exercise to find out !

Some way to go yet but so far for our keywords that I check the average drop ( so far ) is 43 places ( but this ranges from 0 to over -100 ! )

Even had a couple move up 1 or 2 places !

Just looked at WMT as well - that hurt !

<edit > forgot to add - if it's past page 10 I give it a score of -100 so that might dump it up a bit</edit>

45-50% traffic drop on several sites. Some drops are only 8-10 positions.

I have some pages that went from somewhere on page one for certain phrases to page two. I have other pages that went from first page for certain phrases--including very specific phrases applicable to those pages--to somewhere beyond #1000, unable to be found in the results. Then there's the many pages that are somewhere in between, with many of them beyond #100 where they used to be #2 to #9.

Even a 10 position drop, applied to all your pages, can totally destroy your traffic.

In my case, my biggest is -300 but the average is probably -20.

The thing is, I dropped for nearly EVERY keyword. A few it's only -4 or -5, but when you drop for EVERY keyword all at once it has a devastating overall effect.

Keep an eye out on your GWT search queries Avg position change to spot big movers around Panda update dates. It may not be affecting you sitewide.

Even a one or two position drop will affect the $.

Our SERPs fell two to four spots (for the most part). A couple weeks ago I took two ads off the right side bar (below the fold) and many of the SERPS returned to pre-Panda. I can't say for sure if the ads were the problem. The only way to find out for sure is to put the ads back on.

I lost about 3-5 positions on most keywords. Seems like a mild penalty compared to some others. More likely an algo addition than a penalty perhaps.

You may not feel the penalty if you weren't #1.

#1 to #3 can be a 30% loss.
