If you have a link in a post, for example in Wired Magazine. We know that as the post gets deeper into the site the link keeps loosing value. Is there ever a stage when the link has no value?

It seems like Google is devaluing links much quicker than before in editorial write ups, blog post?

I recommend reading this discussion on the topic, from last July....

Does Google "Age" Your Backlinks?
http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4176006.htm [webmasterworld.com]

As discussed, at least at the time, not all backlinks devalue as they aged, but those which are links in "posts" do tend to fade as they get deeper into a site.

Is devaluation happening more quickly now among this type of link? What about the effects of other factors... social factors, eg... which Google might be using? Tweets and social traffic, eg, are very short lived.

You might have a look at the patent related to freshness too ... Does the actual link weight change or just the 'perceived' freshness of the document? You might have to work at Google to answer that...
