Is Redirection one page to another causes penalty ? recently i headed about Google algo change. Now we are repairing our website...
My question is that is Redirection of one page to another causes penalty in Google search ?
I means some pages are duplicate in our website soo we remove that pages and gives redirection to another page to our website.

What do you suggest ? Is it good ? I means if i redirect 100 pages of our site to different-2 pages category than it cause penalty ?

Hello getnews365 - welcome to the forums.

1. When the server returns the same content for two different URLs, you can redirect one to the other with a 301 Permanent redirect.

2. Another way to handle this situation is to use the canonical link tag. This method seems to get processed a bit quicker by Google.

If either method is done accurately, it does not cause a penalty. In either case, you should also make sure that all internal links point only to the one version of the URL, and make sure that any XML Sitemaps have only the "good" URLs, not URLs that redirect.
